Coffee might be just the thing to get you going in the morning, but a cute coffee cozy will make it even better! This is a quick and easy project that can you can make to personalize your own coffee cup or sew up a handful of them for simple gifts, perfect for any coffee lover.
Make your own pattern using a coffee sleeve, available everywhere you can buy coffee. Simply cut one side open and lay flat on a sheet of copy paper.
Trace around the sleeve, adding 1/4" seam allowances to either end. I wanted my cozy to be a little wider than the sleeve so I added a half inch to both top and bottom.
Mark midpoint on one end of outer cozy fabric with a pin. Fold hairband in half with cut ends together and place on right side of fabric, aligning hairband ends with pin. Stitch in place to form a loop. Back-stitch to secure.
Layer fabrics with right side together, then batting on the outside and stitch a 1/4" seam around the cozy, leaving a two-inch gap at the bottom.
Trim the batting away from the seam allowance and clip corners, then turn right side out through gap.
Carefully push out corners, press well, tucking in the seam allowances at the gap. Top-stitch all the way around. Sew your button about an inch in from the end midpoint, see photo.
Slide it around your favorite cup of joe and enjoy your handiwork!
Metro Cafe was designed by Laurie Wisbrun and is available in two color stories: grey/red and tan/green. It is available at fine quilt fabric retailers now.
