Last-minute Father's Day Project

Father's Day is just around the corner, this Sunday, 15th. If you're still looking for a quick project for Dad, we've got one that can be made up in just a couple hours: a Dopp Kit.

Originally Lindsay of The Cottage Mama made dopp kits with our Fox and the Houndstooth fabrics, but they are great in any variety of our quilting cottons, as well as our denims.

This version, made with our heavy weight Vintage Draper Denim with a sports-themed interior.

We used The Cottage Mama's great dopp kit tutorial with a couple alterations, including making the strap a few inches longer and attaching it to the end, rather than the side.

Make your own design choices, using denim, corduroy, or quilting cottons for a quick project that is certain to come in handy for Dad's next business trip or family vacation!

Join us in welcoming Jane Marland from Handmade Jane to Swatch & Stitch. The talented and prolific sewist has some great advice to share about sewing with denims and we're thrilled to have her as a guest blogger. And check out her blog for the beautiful denim shirt dress she just finished! Jane, take it away!

Today I've put together a few simple tips and hints on sewing with denim. Denim really isn't difficult to work with, all you have to do is to use a bit of common sense. These tips have all worked for me with good results, so hopefully they'll work for you too. Enjoy!
