Etsy Sew Fruity Contest… We have a winner!

Last spring, we held a contest with Etsy to find the next surprisingly inedible fabric delectable for our Kona® Cotton Solids ad campaign. Number three in the series, preceded by fabric candy, then fabric cupcakes, evolved into Mother Nature’s sweetest treat – fruit.

After doing some research on the subject, we found the jackpot of fabric fruit on Etsy.com. And with so many great fabric fruit artists out there, how could we choose? So we held the Sew Fruity contest, calling all Etsy shops to share their wares with us for a chance to be featured in our ad campaign. Mecca Gallagher, creator and owner of Etsy shop Little Crickets was our winner with these adorable, originally felt fruits:

Mecca
masterfully remade the fruits in our Kona® Cotton Solid fabrics, resulting in these sweet morsels:

We then had a photo shoot to capture this still-life scene:

And the final result is now appearing in magazines on newsstands now.

Check out these two versions of this print ad. Find them in the following top quilting publications:

Quilts & More, fall ’09 issue

Quilt Sampler, fall/winter ’09 issue

McCall’s Quilting, December ’09 issue

To make your own fabric fruit as adorable as these, visit Little Crickets at LittleCrickets.etsy.com and look for the Fruit Fun pattern.
